Globally, starting from the individual; we face an important threat affecting every actor and level of global governance in different dimensions such as societies, nation states, international organizations and multinational companies.
Benefiting from the maximum extent of the global conditions of the world, threat is more flexible, widespread and inclusive. Therefore, time and space independent global interaction serves to threaten the global dimension rapidly.
From a different angle, the threat in question is against a common “enemy”, which is differentiated in almost every subject, pursues different priorities and interests, prioritizes high policy issues. Moreover, in a very unexpected time and area, reflexes are forcing them to take similar measures although they remain mostly national.
Nevertheless, factors such as similar emotions experienced on a global scale, desire for solidarity, and the sharing of creative ideas including the understanding of continuing life indicate the common stance against the common “enemy” of “humanity.
On the global level, priorities have completely changed and primary needs, especially health, have become the main matter of the agenda.
Once again, we have faced with the fact that every little thing we consider as given as long as we do not lose, that we have determined our agendas as if they would not be in danger and that every element we do not notice, remember or honour will make themselves remembered in one day in the end.
Starting from the individual, each actor is trying to take precautions in order to open the way, to see the way by trying new methods, tools, by taking advantage of the experiences of those before them in the current environment of uncertainty. Furthermore, a total and relentless struggle is being waged at every actor level ona global scale.
On the one hand, while the world is dissociating a lot, on the other hand, the issues that we have to struggle with are increasing. Yet, many issues such as the environment, epidemics do not know the limit and require a common struggle. The most important issue over anything is that the existing comparative advantages among the actors are also ambiguous since the means of struggle differ in such matters.
Recently, while discussing the current situation on the global scale, four concepts -volatility, uncertainty, complexity and ambiguity (VUCA World)- are used. The reason for the use of these concepts was often attributed to different reasons, such as questioning the liberal system (order), inability to harmonize security and interests among the actors, erosion of global values (loss of confidence against global norms) and inferences about digital world domination.
At the point we have reached today, it has become inevitable for us to define the global world by living, experiencing and feeling much more deeply with the same concepts. Unfortunately, the questions came from where we expected less, or where we have always expected but we thought that the queue would never come to us in the big picture. Most importantly, it came from where we wish it would not come… As a result, it came… Being actors of global governance, we have to fulfill all our duties in the short term for the context of crisis management, and perhaps the awareness that will be created by our experience in the medium and long term will be our biggest gain… Nothing is as it seems “alone”… Our duty is to handle, evaluate and analyze the events in many ways and objectively.
In this corner, I will be with you every week on Monday with my articles addressing the content of global governance from a different perspective. Being someone studying, writing, reaching international relations for many years, I will bring you different dimensions of global governance; sometimes with a movie, sometimes with a theater play, sometimes with a concert, sometimes with an exhibition, sometimes with a museum, sometimes with an interview, sometimes with a journey, sometimes with a conference and sometimes with a social media quote… It will be a unique sharing for all of us… We will discover once again that many factors are related to each other in the global world… Perhaps it will be a background for what we heard, and saw, perhaps it will be a preparation for what we will see, and hear…
