Mr. Choi Shing Kwok, Director and CEO of ISEAS – Yusof Ishak Institute, and Dr. William Choong, Senior Fellow, paid a visit to DIPAM office on Thursday, 28 November 2024. Dr. Tolga Sakman, Chairman of DIPAM, and Zehra İşcan, Specialist, attended the meeting held on this occasion.
During the meeting, first of all, the organizations mutually explained their studies and shared their working visions. Then, developments in Southeast Asia and Turkiyes perspective were discussed. Issues such as the competition between the US and China, trade and security were evaluated and areas where Turkiye can establish more contact with the geography were discussed. Singapore’s initiatives through ASEAN and possible other platforms and the impact of these platforms were evaluated.
Then the Russian-Ukrainian War and Israel’s attacks on Gaza and Lebanon were discussed. The global effects of the instability spreading to the region were discussed in detail, especially Turkiye’s perspective on this issue. The search for peace and Turkiye’s initiatives and the channels that can support these initiatives were evaluated.
The work, capacities and intentions of the two institutions on these issues were conveyed. The importance of the effective use of academia and diplomacy channels for the relations between the two countries and other issues was emphasized. Possible areas of cooperation between ISEAS – Yusof Ishak Institute and DIPAM were discussed and a consensus was reached to continue the relations.
