The Ulpiana Forum 2024, hosted by the Government of Kosovo and coordinated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Diaspora, took place in the capital Pristina. The Forum was organized as a platform for diaspora studies and was attended by participants from different parts of the world.
Dr. Tolga Sakman, Chairman of DİPAM, gave a speech at the Forum on the capacity of diasporas to become political elites and gave information about the Turkish diaspora community and the civil and official steps in Türkiye’s diaspora work. In response to the questions of the participants, he evaluated the opportunities and risks of diaspora societies in relations with the homeland due to their structure, both in Türkiye and in other examples, and discussed the impact of the diaspora on Türkiye’s EU process.
On the margins of the event, Dr. Sakman discussed the latest developments in the Balkans and the Middle East in terms of conflicts, risks and solutions with Deputy Foreign Ministers from countries in the region, especially Kosovo; NGO representatives, academics, politicians and diplomats from different countries. Evaluations were made for possible cooperation.
In the meeting with Albin Kurti, Prime Minister of Kosovo, he explained what Kosovo has done for the diaspora and local community, their projects, national and international policies and the main problems of Kosovo. Dr. Sakman also had a private meeting with Prime Minister Kurti.
