The first joint workshop with the theme as “Mutual Relations in New Era” on Hungarian and Turkish foreign policy, hosted by the Center for Diplomatic Affairs and Political Studies (DİPAM) and Budapest-based Institute for Strategic and Defense Studies (ISDS) of National University of Public Service (NUSP) took place online on 14th April 2021.
Workshop started by Opening Speeches that made by Chairman of DİPAM Tolga SAKMAN and Director of ISDS Dr. Péter TÁLAS. And then Ferenc NÉMETH (Institute for Foreign Affairs and Trade (IFAT)), Dr. Tamás BARANYİ (IFAT), Dr. Zoltán EGERESİ (ISDS) with Dr. Murat JANE (Istanbul Aydın University), Prof. Dr. Esra HATİPOĞLU (DİPAM), Prof. Aylin Ünver NOİ (Haliç University) shared their knowledge and opinions and answered the questions of the researchers of the two institutions.
Participants offered an overview of the basic features of Hungarian and Turkish foreign policy and elaborated Hungary-Turkey relations. They underlined the fact of being positioned between East and West in the foreign policy realities of both countries. Strengthening of relations between Turkey and Hungary opportunity reflect it. Because Turkey could play an important role in “expansion to East policy” of the Hungarian government and Hungary, with supporting to Ankara in the European Union can provide an alternative for Turkey. Moreover, there is a period in which the two countries diversify their relations with different international organizations.
It was decided to prepare the report of the workshop, which was held closed, and to continue similar studies between the two institutions.
